Sharing is Caring, Especially When It Comes to Cleaning

How to Clean Outdoor Furniture

It’s time to start enjoying the beautiful Spring weather, but you might want to think twice before you have a seat outside. Like most people your outdoor furniture has probably been sitting around and collecting dirt and grime. It’s time to get that furniture cleaned up.

Start by setting up all your outdoor furniture outside on the lawn, then brush off all of the excess leaves, dirt and grime that have settled. Next hose down all the furniture to rinse off easily washed away dirt.

Use warm, soapy water and a tough brush to scrub away all signs of stuck dirt. Instead of soap, you can also use a mixture of white vinegar and water.

Get a special polisher or protector for metal outdoor furniture, to remove any signs of rust. Wooden outdoor furniture can be easily repainted or sealed for even more protection.

Canvas coverings for outdoor furniture washes easily in the washing machine, but remember to put it back on the furniture while it’s still wet so that it keeps the correct shape.

Now that your outdoor furniture is sparkling clean, you can sit back and enjoy.

Mother’s Day Breakfast in Bed

This year, start off your Mother’s Day with breakfast in bed. Breakfast in bed is a wonderfully relaxing way to begin your morning, but if you’re going to be making this meal with your kids stick to simple recipes that can’t go wrong. The one thing you don’t want to give to the mother of the house is food poisoning!

Great Mother’s Day breakfasts in bed can be as simple as eggs, toast and bacon, french toast, oatmeal or yogurt and granola. The food itself isn’t all that matters. Try putting some flowers and other decorations on the tray along with the breakfast.

To make this breakfast in bed extra special, try waiting until the mother of the house wakes up on her own before bringing her food. Breakfast in bed is very exciting, but so is sleeping in late!

Happy Mother’s Day.

How to Clean Your Barbecue

Are you planning on firing up the grill and taking advantage of these beautiful Spring weekends? Well before you break out the steaks, you might want to clean up your barbecue first.

Unless you spend your winters in Florida, your grill has spent the past few months gathering grime and dirt. For scraping off all that grime, we recommend purchasing a grilling stone. Wire scrapers and brushes are not as effective as grilling stones, and they are worth purchasing.

After scrubbing off most of the major grease, many grills can be cleaned similar to self cleaning ovens. Just run the grill for half an hour at a high temperature. This burns up most of the stuck on goop, and after the grill has cooled down, another scraping with the grill stone will leave your barbeque as good as new, or almost new.

Get a good product, like Stainless Steel Magic, to clean the outside of your grill. By the time you’re done your barbecue will be so shiny you won’t let anyone else touch it.

Burger anyone?

Low Calorie Margaritas

With Cinco de Mayo coming up this weekend, we’re all looking for a great way to celebrate without piling on the pounds. Most restaurant margaritas have up to 500 calories – per drink! This simple, blended low calorie recipe is less than 200 calories, so you can enjoy two drinks for less calories than one restaurant margarita.

Start by running a lime around the edge of each glass. Fill a saucer with kosher salt, and then dip the wet glasses onto the saucer so that the rim of each glass has salt stuck to it.

Next, place the following ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
½ cup fresh lime juice
¼ cup tequila
1 ½ tablespoons Cointreau
3 tablespoons sugar (or agave nectar to cut down on calories even more)
12 ice cubes

Poor the mixture into glasses, and enjoy!

This year, celebrate in style with this great low calorie margarita recipe.

How To Get Mildew Out of Clothes

Taking down that box of summer clothes that you’ve been dreaming about all winter can quickly turn to a nightmare if your clothing is covered in mildew. Mildew is a mold that tends to grow in dark places within the home, and smells terribly. Don’t toss out all your clothes just yet, with a few tricks it’s easy to get mildew out of clothes.

First, take the clothes outside and brush off any visible mildew. Doing this outside keeps the mildew from spreading in your home and the sunlight also helps kill mildew.

Bleach is the best way to get mildew out of clothes, but make sure you use the right kind of bleach. If possible, use chlorine bleach and wash with the hottest water possible. Oxygen bleach is safer for most fabrics, so if you can’t use chlorine bleach soak the clothing in oxygen bleach and super hot water for half an hour before washing.

Sun dried clothing is rough on the skin, but it’s worth leaving your clothes to dry in the sun after washing to kill any remaining mildew. When the clothes are almost dry, running them through the dryer for a few minutes will soften them.

Don’t let mildew ruin your summer wardrobe.
