Save your Carpets from Summer

It’s great when the kids are outdoors playing, but when they come inside you’ll wind up with dirty footprints all over your carpets. Prevent the spread of outdoor dirt by keeping a shoe rack by the front and back door. Make sure kids know to remove shoes before coming into the house.

Kids aren’t the only people tracking dirt into the house. Adults should also be asked to remove shoes before coming inside. If you’re entertaining friends that won’t be comfortable removing their shoes, make sure you provide a doormat where guests can wipe their shoes before coming inside.

Rainy summer days mean the whole family will be stuck inside. Keeping drinks and snacks out of the carpeted areas of the house will prevent spills and crumbs from staining your carpets.

By following a few simple household rules, you’ll be able to extend the life of your carpets while keeping them in perfect condition.

Holy Summer Hurricanes, East Coast

Since the outbreak of Hurricane Irene, we have been working tirelessly to help people clear the water from their homes. Our phones are ringing off the hook, all day, with people desperate for flood relief and water damage services. As Hurricane Irene continues to cause damages, problems and stress throughout the east coast, we remind you to stay safe because we’re not out of the weeds yet.

As electricity starts coming back in homes and offices, remember to stay clear of rooms with any level of standing water present. Beware of electrocution in your damaged home. Loose power lines and water create fatal environments for humans and animals.

What kind of carpet should I buy?

Buying a carpet involves a lot of decisions, relating to color, texture, style and cost. Before you part with your money, it’s a good idea to think about your priorities, and what you want your carpet to “do” primarily for you home.

However beautiful and elegant certain carpets are, they may not be particularly good at hiding vacuum cleaner marks or footprints…and if you’ve got kids and pets, this is something you’re really want to going to consider.

Different carpets have different yarns, which give them certain characteristics.  If you’re looking for something that’s durable and functional, you might want to consider a Berber (Loop) style or perhaps a Cable carpet.

Berbers will last you for years, and are really good for family areas.
Cable carpeting has a chunky look because it’s made with a “fat” yarn and is another great choice for homes that see a lot of foot traffic.

There are so many carpets on the market today, so be sure to do your research, and think hard about what works for you.
