With so many people in need from the aftermath of Sandy, it’s hard to know how to get started helping others. Many people want to help out by donating items, but don’t know what

people need, or how to get it to them. Anything you can do to help those in need is important and valuable, but here are some of the best items to donate to help get you started:

Canned foods and clean water are in the highest demand right now. Since many people still don’t have power to cook food, canned foods are easier to prepare than dry goods like rice or pastas. Make sure to donate non-perishable and non-damaged items only.

Many food banks, soup kitchens and other organizations can purchase large amounts of food at extremely low costs. Giving money can sometimes be uncomfortable as you can’t always be sure if you’re gift is really helping people. Locating reputable food banks and local religious organizations make it easier to give worry free financial donations.

It’s literally freezing outside, and many people are cold. Warm blankets and clothing are very much in need. Contact your local soup kitchen, shelters and religious organizations to find out where you can bring warm clothing for donation.

Donations are pouring into New York and New Jersey from all around America, but getting the needed items to the people that need them is still difficult. To give a truly amazing gift to others and to yourself, donate some of your time. Volunteering to drive supplies, organize, or help out at a soup kitchen is an amazing way to give back to your community.

By pulling together and helping our neighbors, we can make this storm a thing of the past.

Holy Summer Hurricanes, East Coast

Since the outbreak of Hurricane Irene, we have been working tirelessly to help people clear the water from their homes. Our phones are ringing off the hook, all day, with people desperate for flood relief and water damage services. We continue to work our hardest to create a safe, stable and clean living environment for all East Coasters affected by the hurricane. We’re like Batman whooping into save the distressed New York victims of Irene.

As Hurricane Irene continues to cause damages, problems and stress throughout the east coast, we remind you to stay safe because we’re not out of the weeds yet.

As electricity starts coming back in homes and offices, remember to stay clear of rooms with any level of standing water present. Beware of electrocution in your damaged home. Loose power lines and water create fatal environments for humans and animals.

Watch out for Water Damage

The East Coast has recently seen some of the worst blizzards in years, with snow falling so fast on New York’s streets that daily life, for a while, almost ground to a standstill.  But not being able to get around town isn’t the only problem our clients are facing – bitterly cold temperatures have meant that an increasing number of water pipes are freezing over.  As a result, they’re cracking, but the damage isn’t often noticeable until they begin to thaw.

When large amounts of water flood out of the pipe, they’re going to look for the “path of least resistance” which is often your own front door area!  And if that water freezes again, you’re looking at an ice problem, which means getting to your sidewalk won’t be just tricky but downright dangerous.

Leaks from pipes can also flood basements, cause roof damage and soak your carpets and, before you know it, you’ll have a mold or mildew problem on your hand, which isn’t just unpleasant but a health hazard.
