FAQ

Answers to the Questions Flat Rate Carpet Receives the Most

What are your flat rates?

Every carpet/rug is unique. Material, size and condition may vary, and there are different treatments and solutions that suite these different situations. The professional that will arrive at your home will determine the most appropriate cleaning options for you to choose from, based on the above mentioned details, and will quote you our flat rate for them. This is how we are able to provide you with a great service at affordable prices.

Can you clean mattresses to qualify for border control certifications? (When moving to Canada or Mexico)?

Yes, we can. Our friendly customer service representatives will gladly explain how.

Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

Yes, we are. With over 13 years experience we are licensed, bonded and insured in all of our service area.

Are you a real company, registered with the IRS?

Yes, we are. When choosing a carpet cleaner it is important to make sure that you hire a legitimate company. Flat Rate Carpet is such a company and is, naturally, registered with the IRS.

What's your guarantee for the job?

We use the highest standards in the industry in terms of products, equipment and expertise. If you are not 100% satisfied with the result we will return for a review of the work at no extra charge, and if necessary we will redo the job.

How many technicians are coming over?

The number of technicians arriving at your place can vary, depending on the size of the job: a single technician for a relatively simple job and up to 3 professionals for a complex/large scale work.

How soon can I have a technician come out to my house?

Depending on the availability of the technicians in your area, we will schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. Usually we are able to dispatch someone at the same day or the next day.

Where are you located?

We have various locations throughout the tri-state area, and will dispatch someone from the nearest location to you.

Where can I drop off my rugs?

At present, flat rate carpet's factories are not customer drop-off oriented. However, we provide free pickup & delivery service anywhere in the Tri-State Area.

Are your products safe?

Upon your request we will use only non-toxic biodegradable cleaning agents, to ensure the health and safety of your family. In addition, we are happy to provide MSDS (material safety data sheets) about our products.

Do you move furniture?

Yes, we do. According to circumstances, we do our best to make sure your property is not damaged in any way during the cleaning process.

How soon will I be able to walk on my carpet again?

We recommend you keep regular traffic off the carpet for a period of 2 hours. You may use the carpet lightly immediately after cleaning by wearing socks or house slippers. Walking on freshly cleaned carpet with bare feet may leave oil spots.

How long will it take my carpet to dry?

Normal drying time is from 6-24 hours, depending on the humidity level in the air, air movement and room temperature. Do not be alarmed if it takes longer especially when Teflon or Scotchgard has been applied.

How long will it take my furniture to dry?

It typically takes anywhere from 6-8 hours. We recommend you abstain from using it until the next morning.

Will all the spots come out?

We treat all spotted areas with the most professional techniques available today. However, we can not guarantee the removal. Many agents affect carpet dyes and spots set in if not blotted up immediately.

How safe are your cleaning and protection methods?

We use only the safest, most effective technology to assure not only your satisfaction, but your safety as well. We do not use any chemicals, or leave any irritant residues.

I've heard it's best to put off having your carpet cleaned as long as possible, is this true?

No. In fact, many of the major carpet mills today recommend professional cleaning at least once every 6-8 months. The build up of soil in your carpet, in combination with foot traffic, creates an abrasion that breaks down your carpet's fibres. The higher the traffic in a given area, the more often the carpet will need cleaning.

What does "cleaning to the standards" mean?

In 1992, representatives from the carpet manufacturing industry, the carpet cleaning industry, and the federal government set a common set of standards for the carpet cleaning industry. These standards are now referred to as the Soo1-92 standards. It was agreed that each of these cleaning processes should include these common steps:

- Pre-Vacuum
- Pre-treat spots, stains and heavily soiled areas
- Hot Water Extraction
- A thorough rinse
- Furniture Moving

Cleaning your carpet in accordance to these industry standards will help assure that you'll get a quality cleaning job.

Can you get the pet odor out of my carpet?

Pet odor is a very common problem that often turns out to be much more complex than initially thought. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the padding. This creates a problem that is multi-layered.
The urine also provides for the growth of bacteria. This in turn contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to permanent color loss of the carpet fiber. To eliminate this problem, the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers affected. If the contamination is limited to only the face yarn of the carpet then the cleaning itself may effectively remove the odor. In more severe cases a urine neutralizer may be applied.
In the most severe cases, replacement of the carpet padding, treatment of the under-side of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required.

My carpet has bleached or faded spots, can you correct that?

If there is color loss in the carpet, it may be able to be spot dyed, or we can do a carpet repair for you by replacing that area of carpet with another piece from our stock.
